MESSAGE ANCHORED BY THE GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT.
TOPIC: PREPARATION FOR THE LAST PASSOVER.
MARK 14:1-21
I welcome you to the Monday Bible Study, your Monday Bible Study, and I thank the Lord that we are always here, and as we learn the word of God together, I pray that the Lord Himself will open our eyes to all that He's revealing to us, and the word of God will transforms us and make our lives better IN Jesus Name Amen.
Tonight, we are moving forward in our study of the Gospel according to St Mark, and tonight we are in Mark chapter 14, and we are studying from verse 1 all through to verse 21. Actually, it's a long passage, but it's a simple passage. And as we look at the passage today, we are talking about the PREPARATION FOR THE LAST PASSOVER. I'm sure you've heard about that before now, the Passover started from the Old Testament, from Exodus chapter 12, and the children of Israel were supposed to carry on with that Passover, it was when the Lord delivered the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, and before that deliverance, He gave them the plan of redemption and He told them what to do, they are to take a lamb and the lamb will be without blemish, and they will keep that lamb for fourteenth days of the same month, then on the appointed day, that's in the evening, the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it, they will sacrifice that lamb and when they shed the blood of the lamb, because God said, the Angel of death was going to pass through the land of Egypt, and Judgement was going to come upon the people, the whole land, and it's a symbol, and it's reminding us that this world is under the anger of God and under the Judgement of God, and yet there is a provision made for anyone that will escape from that Judgment of God, so God said, the children of Israel will apply the Blood of the lamb and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door posts of the houses, and then when the angel passes by in the night, when He sees that blood, God says, "when I see the Blood, I will pass over you". That's exactly what they did, and as they did that, all through that night, all the children of Israel, they were preserved in the houses, but they were told none of them must go out of their houses, they will remain under the shield, they will remain under the Blood and under the protection of the blood, they will remain and abode there, and the angel of death passed by in all the houses of Egyptians, and where the mark of the Blood was not, there was death of first born all over the land, in fact, He says both of the beast and the animals and then eventually the children of Israel were preserved. But you see that Passover they observed, the Lord said they shall eat the flesh of that animal they have slayed in that night as they applied the blood roast with fire, and also the great they took it was to be unleavened bread. That's why you find in the Old Testament Bible and in the New Testament that's says, "in the Passover of the unleavened bread". Tonight, as we come to mark chapter 14, reading from verse 1 to verse 21, He says very clearly that they were to have all that they will do for the pass over before, and before that Passover night, JESUS Christ was in the house, and in that house there was a woman, as He sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. And that ointment was costly, and there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. She did that in preparation for the death of Christ and for the burial of the Lord JESUS Christ. And after that, we now have the Passover itself, as they were going to observe the last Passover, and then during that time, the Lord Jesus Christ warned His Own disciples about the betrayer, and He said about the one that will betray Him, and the consequences that will come upon that betrayer.
POINT ONE: THE PRICE OF ANOINTING HIS UNBLEMISHED BODY.
MARK 14:1-
This is talking about Jesus Christ, His body was without sin, and remember the lamb they were to have for the Passover in the Old Testament will be without any deformity, and that pointed to the Lord Jesus Christ that will come and He came, and He was sinless, He was spotless, He was Holy, He was righteous through and through, withing and without. His body was unblemished, His body and His life was spotless, and so you have this woman that came and anointed the body of the Lord Jesus Christ, we see the costly price of that anointing that was paid to get that ointment of anointing all poured upon the Lord Jesus Christ.
*After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death. They were crafting, they were hypocritical, they were not sincere, although they were sincere in finding false accusations against the Lord Jesus Christ, it was all set up, and it was by craftiness, they conspired evil agenda do find accusation against Christ, and He says, they wanted to put Him to death, but they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people. They didn't want to do it at that time because they feared the uproar And before that Passover, when Christ was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. She poured it on the head of the Lord Jesus Christ, And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? There was indignation and anger within the people because of the costly ointment she poured on the Lord Jesus Christ, and so we understand that, the daily workers wage at that time, they received the pence a day, that means when you talk of this costly 300 pence, it means that, the cost of that ointment will be the salary of daily wage earners for 300days, and when you take a way the servants that day will not work, in like literally for the whole year. And then that brought the anger to them because she poured that costly ointment upon the Lord Jesus Christ, which they supposed she could have sold that ointment for 300 pence and have given to the poor, that's what they thought. The oil was so precious and Matthew called it "Costly", those people were elevating and exalting the poor more than the Lord Jesus Christ, and they murmured against this woman, and what they complained for, Jesus Christ replied and said, the woman has done a good work on Him, Jesus Christ compliment and commended what this women did, but the people that were there were thinking that she should have sold the ointment and give to the poor, and they said the woman shouldn't have done that that she should have sold that ointment and given to the poor, and Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. He was reminding them of His death and His burial, that even when He rose from the dead, He will ascend to Heaven, and they will have all the poor with them for thousands of years, that they can take care of them. And Jesus Christ said, verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her. Even though JESUS Christ was still facing the cross, even though JESUS Christ was going to Calvary and yet He was still reminding them, and He was reminding the Apostles and the church that we will go to all the world and preaching the Gospel to every creature, and He said, anywhere we go preaching the Gospel, and everywhere we go preaching the Gospel, we must preach that Christ has died and He has given Himself for us, and He shed His blood for an atonement for our sins, and that everywhere we go, we will be preaching through out the whole world, as we preach the Redemption JESUS Christ brought, Jesus Christ said, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
I. The Plan of Arresting Him by Craft. Mark 14:1-2; John 11:47-53; Psalms 2:1-6; Matthew 26:1-5.
Mark chapter 14 verse 1 and 2 tells us about their craft and their hypocrisy, after two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death. But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people. They were hypocrites, they were planing how they might take Him by lying, by deception, and they were planning by just a formating some plot around Him and put Him to death, any one that is doing anything like that today, wanting to rope people into trouble, and they wanting to get people into trouble and they do it by craft, by planning and they do it by plotting, they are following those who took Jesus Christ and arrested Him by craft, and if they follow the same path, they are going to end in the same place. And so we understand that, these chief priests have been planning and predetermined evil against Jesus ahead for a long time, they knew that He was Christ, then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles, instead of them calling Him Master, instead of calling Him Christ, instead of calling Him Messiah, instead of calling Him the Son of God the Righteous One, they will not, even openly affirmed that this is the Prophet that was to come, and they said, If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation. They don't want people to follow Christ because they might loose people to His hand, they were politically motivated, and they said, they don't want people to follow JESUS, and because of their political ambition, they said if they let Him alone and He keeps on working the miracles, men are going to believe on Him, and because they don't want people to believed on him, that's what led them to their false accusation against Christ. And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. Caiaphas didn't understand he was prophesying what Christ will do, but he was doing this by craft, he was doing this so that they could get rid of Christ. And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;he prophesied and he didn't know he was prophesying, he didn't know he was declaring the mind of God, he didn't understand that, this has already be decided by God from eternity before the foundation of the world, he didn't know it was prophecy, he just said it out of his own craftiness, he just said what he said out of his own plotting, he was prophesying that Jesus will die for that nation, and not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. They took counsel together to put Christ to death, that was the plots and that was the direction in which they were going, in fact, He said all these things has been prophesied and written aforetime, and Jesus Christ said, He came to fulfilled all things that were written concerning Him, they don't want Christ to have control over them, it was also prophesied in Psalms chapter 2, that they were against His working miracle, and it was exactly as it prophesied in Psalms chapter 2, and so you understand that, this is what has been prophesied before.
* the death did not come to Christ by surprise, and before He was born, He knew and when He was getting those disciples together, He knew that, this was going to be the end,.
å they were going to take Him by Deception.
å they were going to take Him by lying.
å they were going to take Him by subtilty.
å they were going to take Him by Craft.
å they were going to take Him and plot against Him, and kill Him. They knew that all those recipients of the miracle that He has performed, they knew that they will rise up and kick against them, because at that feast, all the Jews came from everywhere, just like a day of Pentecost when they came from everywhere, and from Jerusalem to celebrate the feast of the passover, it's established in the word of God, and let it be established in your understanding that, when they took Jesus and they arrested Him, it was by craft.
II. The Price of Anointing Christ. Mark 14:3-5; 1 Corinthians 6:20; 2 Corinthians 5:14-15. And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as Jesus Christ sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. The love of this woman for Christ was so much that there was great outpouring of the most precious thing that she had upon Jesus. And so because of the costly ointment she poured upon Jesus Christ, people murmured thinking she supposed to sold it and give to the poor, they didn't understand that JESUS Christ is more important than the poor, Jesus Christ who healed so many people, who works so many miracles, who fed the hungry, and Jesus Christ who did for them what no man has done, in fact, Jesus Christ did for them what the whole nation has not seen, and then this woman to take an alabaster box of ointment and poured it on Jesus, that was good, that was great effort because of what Jesus was. Can you imagine people having indignation within themselves because of what that woman hath done, she was honouring Jesus Christ, and she was exalting Jesus Christ and pouring that ointment upon Him, and now they were saying that pouring of a costly Ointment was a waste.
* When you give your life to Jesus Christ, you must pour your costly thing upon Jesus, maybe you have been pursuing a particular cost and then you turn around and you say, now all your love, and all your faithfulness and all your loyalty, and all your obedience, everything of the rest of your life, you will pour it upon Jesus, you're going to pour your life out for the Lord JESUS Christ, you know there are people that are going to say, what a waste of life, and what a waste of talent, and what a waste of ability, that you could be somebody in that area, they will try to discourage you that pouring your life unto Christ is as waste of time, they will tell you that, pouring your talent, your skill, your life and your faithfulness on Christ is a waste of time. The will say, you could have be on top of a particular profession, and they call it a waste. But in the case of this woman, she didn't listened to them, she didn't stopped what she was doing just because there were people that didn't understand, they did not agree with her sacrificial given, you must not stop when you're sacrificing to Christ, you must not allow the opinion of the people to stop you from giving a costly service unto the Lord, and you're pouring your life and you're pouring your love upon the Lord Jesus Christ. When though people might say it's a waste, they will say you're wasting your time, they will say you're wasting your talent, your resources and your skill, all the same, keep on doing what you're doing, and eternity will reveal that you're wise, you're wiser than those people.
When this woman was pouring the costly ointment upon Jesus Christ, there was indignation, and they said, it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. They are always calculating, and there are people like that today who are always calculating and calculating before they would give to God, they will say, instead of giving costly thing to God, instead of giving Your ability, instead of giving all your knowledge, and all your skill, and instead of pouring all these costly things, they will calculate that if you were in that profession, this is what you could have make in life, don't mind them, keep on sowing and keep on pouring and keep on giving and keep on sacrificing everything you got to the Lord, they might murmur against you, there are people that say, instead of serving God, they will murmur that you could have done something else that will benefit your moral life, that is the way the world always think, and that's the way they always murmur. But we thank God that, this woman continued and she did what she ought to do, already, God owns you, He bought you with a price, He says, we are bought with a price: therefore we should glorify God in our body, and in our spirit, which are God's. The world will not agree with you, and the Judaism of the world will not agree with you, backsliders will not agree with you, the prodigals who have gone to the far country and all they can think about is the world, is about selling and giving to the poor, all they can think about is the need of hour, is the need at this time, they don't think about eternity, but they don't understand they are bought with a price, therefore you're glorifying God in your body, and in your spirit.
We see the Logic and we see the important of the Lord of Christ constrains us. He left His throne in eternity, and He left all the Peace and all the adoration and the worship with the Angels in eternity, and He came to this world and He went through life having nothing, He made Himself poor that you might be rich, He made Himself a sacrifice for sinners, that you might be saved, and He made Himself to have all that suffering and all that agony, you remember His prayer in the garden of Gethsemane, and you remember His crying on the Cross of Calvary, all for you and if Christ has done so much for us, and He has done that for you, therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. He died for you, it's not too much for you to give Him an hour, it's not too much for you to give Him a day, it's not too much for you to give Him your life, and it's not too much for you to give Him the precious things in your life and go witness and go evangelizing, and go obeying Him, and go carry out the Great commission. If He died for you and whosoever turn away from sin, He will save, He will forgives, and you'll be set free, and He will write your name in the book of life. And He will take you to heaven when you die. Only because of His death, only because of His sacrifice and that He died for us, we should pour that same costly ointment upon the Lord, we should think about Christ, everything we do, everywhere we go, all the hours we spend, everytime and all our talents, and all our skill, and everything we acquired, we are now to pour on the Lord Jesus Christ. Pour the costly thing you have upon Jesus, your ability is very costly, and your intelligent is very costly, your skill is very costly, your knowledge you got is very costly, your certificate is very costly, all the years you put to that to be able to have that, don't use them selfishly only for yourself, pour everything upon Christ.
*Remember that He's the One that died for you, so surrender and submit everything to Christ, and serve the Lord and as the Lord recorded a testimony concerning this woman that poured her costly ointment upon Jesus, the same thing you will do and yours will be recorded too.
III. The Preaching of His Atoning Cross. Mark 14:6-9; 1 Corinthians 1:18,22-24; Romans 5:8,11; 1 John 2:1-2. When this woman was pouring The costly ointment upon Jesus Christ, and people are murmuring, Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
Are you a believer? And you're not offering everything you got to the Lord, and that another believer is offering what he has got to the Lord, let him or her alone, don't disturb him, don't stop him, don't hinder him, don't discourage him, if anyone is pouring to the Lord, don't stop them. Is your spouse giving so much for the Lord, praise the Lord, let him /her alone, don't hinder your husband or your wife or anyone that is pouring costly things upon the Lord, that opportunity will not always be there to witness to people, do it heartily, when use the opportunity you have to preach the Gospel, do it because that opportunity will not always be there to talk about Christ, understand that humanity is like water, and they are flowing like water flows under the bridge, and the water that you see there today, will not be the water you'll see there tomorrow, that water that was there yesterday has gone, and now you have a new stream, what I'm saying is, the opportunity you have to take to somebody now, it might not be there tomorrow, the message, and the minister will still be there, but the people may not be there tomorrow, therefore, that opportunity you have, use it, do good unto people by preaching the word of God unto them, preaching of the atonement cross, that's what we are to preach, we are to preach it everywhere we go, preach that word, it's the word of cross, preach of His blood, preach that word, preach about His sacrifice, and preach what He has done for humanity. When you're preaching and emphasizing and exalting and elevating Christianity above, people of the world will think it's foolish because to them, they think that all road leads to home, they think that, all the ways of worship are the same, they say everything is the same, when you elevate the cross, and when you exalt Christ, and when you tell them that, this is the narrow way, the way of redemption that Leads to heaven, to them, the preaching of the cross is foolishness because they are perishing.
Christ is our Saviour, He's the propitiation of our sins, He's the righteous, He's the Final sacrifice, He's the Redeemer, He made a full and complete atonement, we are in and some outsiders are still coming, that's why we must reach out to them with the Gospel. we see what has done and we must tell everyone about Christ, He says, the preaching of His atonement will be preached in every where. That's what we are to do, that's our primary assignment in which He has called us to. We must do it wholeheartedly, we must be faithful to pour our costly sacrifices unto God.
POINT TWO: THE PASSOVER APPOINTED WITH UNLEAVENED BREAD.
MARK 14:12-16.
Leavened bread is a symbol of sin, it's a symbol of evil, and the Lord wanted to emphasize that, as we come to Christ, and as we have that, He will pass over us, there is a passover and it's appointed with the unleaveneved bread. This is the passover appointed by the Lord, Appointed by Almighty God with the unleavened bread. When they kill the passover, and it was the time and the day of unleavened bread, And JESUS Christ sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him. And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us. When He said what He said to His disciples, they didn't know how they were going to meet the man He sent them to, and everything He said, either immediate fulfillment, or the one that is going to have in future fulfillment, that's why He said, "heaven and earth shall pass away, but His word shall not pass away". Understand when He wanted to send His disciple to the city, He said, wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? And they did that and they found as He has said, as we talk about the passover, already we have been told the story at the beginning, at the introduction of this Bible Study.
I. The First Passover. Exodus 12:5-6,12-13; Number 9:2; Deuteronomy 16:1-2; Joshua 5:2,5,8-10. We are talking about the first passover, when the first passover was established in the Old covenant, God says the lamb shall be without blemish, He said, your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. Actually, every family, each family of the Israelites will have a lamb without blemish, and then at the right time as they were appointed to do, each family will kill that lamb without blemish, and without spot, and they will apply the Blood upon their houses, everyone that does not come under the mark of the Blood of the spotless lamb, the blood of the lamb without blemish shall never escape the judgment of God. And the protection, and the Salvation, and the deliverance will come on the basis of the Blood that they shed. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. And the destruction and devastating, and the death and the calamity will not be upon them, and they did that from generation to generation because that is what the Lord has instructed them to do. This first passover was for the children of Israel, and not for the church. The Lord was telling them how they will kill the lamb, and He told them the day, He told them the exact time they were to kill the lamb, and He told them where they will do it. The Passover was not unto Moses, they were doing it unto the Lord. Remember, if Moses was still alive, they should do it unto the Lord, and if Moses wasn't still alive, they should do it. It was a remembrance of what the Lord hath done for them, He redeemed them, He saved them, He brought them out of the land of bondage, He brought them out of the land of captivity, we know the Lord supper that came instituted by Christ Himself, after the passover was gone, that same we should remember this also, when we come together as people of God, then we keep the Lord's Supper for honourng the Lord, the Lord's Supper is not something we take at home anywhere, we are doing it because we reserved the dignity and reverence, and the honour should be given to God, let's give honour to the Lord, and let's seek the glory to the Lord and let's give the reverence unto the Lord, that was first passover that they were to observe.
As we talk about the passover for the children of Israel, the children of Israel have been in the wilderness all those fourty years and the people that were born in the wilderness were not circumcised, and now they came to the land of Canaan and remember from year to year, in the place where God has appointed them will keep on observing the passover, and for the children of Israel, anyone that is not circumcised should be cutoff from from among the people and so they could not just jump over that circumcision and say they were keeping the passover. First they will make sure that they were circumcised, after that circumcision, they can now keep the passover, all the things that the Lord had appointed they were to observe everything as the Lord has appointed.
II the final Passover (which is what was taking place now) . Mark 14:12; Luke 22:7-9,13; John 13:1. Here is the final passover, the children of Israel have been celebrating and observing the passover all the century of the history and then the final, the last Passover was to be observed. You know the writers of the Bible, all the people the Lord used to write Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, it's unleavened bread they recorded that the Lord has ordained for the Passover, the leavened must not be there, everything, every details of the word of God so important for us, And He sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. He could have sent Peter and Andrew because they were associated together, Andrew brought Peter to Christ, but he didn't sent Andrew and Peter, He could have chose John and James because they were sons of Zebedee, but He didn't, you know it's not according to the natural thing you think, but He sent Peter and John, and isn't wonderful that this continues, in Acts chapter 3, Peter and John have been together, and then when they were three into prison, it was Peter and John, and when they were going to Samaria, because the people of Samaria have received the word of God, and then it was Peter and John, do you notice everything, all these details in the word of God are very important for us to learn, and it's very important for us to go by the promptness of obedience, when JESUS Christ sent Peter and John, we see their promptness of obedience, and the completeness of the obedience, and the willingness in obedience. They didn't questioned Christ, He said go and they just went and do according as He has said. John hives gives us another sign of this period, but now He that His hour was come, if you knew your hour has come, if you knew your time of opportunity you will not throw that off, at everytime of the opportunity, you will do what the Lord has appointed, you will do what the Lord has appointed for you. Even at that time of Christ, there was craftiness among the Pharisees there was hypocrisy, even in the midst of that, He loved His Own and He loved them unto the Lord.
III. The Fulfilled Passover. 1 Corinthians 5:7-8; Matthew 16:6,12; Galatias 9:19-21; 2 Corinthians 7:1. As we profess that we belong to Christ, as we profess That Christ the passover has been sacrificed for us, we will keep that Passover with Unleavened bread, He makes the application of that Passover, we should keep it unleavened bread, the Lord says we should observe the passover, and here is the word of God says, Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. That means, we are to do away with all the leaven, as we are now the new Testament e
Believers, and we are now become the children of God, and we are under under the mark of the Blood, He will pass over us. We must not have the leave of the Pharisees, what does it mean? Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. He's talking about the hypocrisy and insincerity. As we now stay under the mark of the Blood of the Lamb, the spotless Lamb, and the sinless Lamb, and the Lamb that was made sacrificed for sins, and He says, when I see the Blood of the Lamb I will pass over you. As children of God, there must not be any leaven with us, we cannot excuses little sin, as we are now under the mark of the Blood of Jesus, a little leaven is not allowed, a little sin is not allowed, and a little appearance of evil is not allowed. Here is the leaven that must not be in our lives as children of God who know that Christ our Lord passes over, He's been sacrificed for us, and because of that, adultery must not be in our lives, all that kind of the leaven of sin, leaven of worldliness, and leaven of flesh must not be in our lives anymore. Somebody cannot say he believes in Christ, and still have the form of ungodliness, stay under the Blood of Jesus Christ, don't go outside, He makes holiness still central, He makes Holiness still important, He makes Holiness still indispensable. In fact, the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us and then we remain under the the consecrated life, under the committed life, and under that Blood and we remain Holy and righteous.
POINT THREE: THE PERDITION AWAITING THE UNREPENTANT BETRAYER.
MARK 14:10-21.
The Lord Jesus Christ gave warning and He gave the warning and He did that over and over on the betrayer that will come, and He says that, if that betrayer did not repent, he will face the Judgment of God. the Pharisees were looking for the way they will take Jesus by craft and plot against Him, and then give some kind of false accusations and then crucify Him, and they were looking for a way how to get of Him, so they can arrest Him by the craft. And when they heard that one of the disciples actually didn't love Christ that much, and he was not so in intimacy with Christ, and he was just an hypocrite, and he came to them wanting to betray Christ, and they were glad, he was one of the disciples, he was with the assembly of the Saints, and then he went ahead to betray Christ. You should not take anything for granted, and Christ said, not everyone will endure until the end, don't be so sure of yourself, always examine your life. He was of those twelve disciples ,he could have become great Apostle that will have the Holy Ghost upon him on the day of Pentecost, he was very close to Jesus, but he was intimidated by the devil, and JESUS Christ said, woe to the betrayer, woe to the traitor, wow to that backslider and woe to that apostate.
I. the Warning for the betrayer. Matthew 26:24-25,; 27:3-5; Acts 1:16-20,25. The Lord warned Judas Iscariot, even when JESUS repeated and repeated the warning, he even said, Master is it I? He called Him Master, he called Him Lord, that's why JESUS Christ said not everyone that calls Him Lord shall enter into the Kingdom of God. Judas Iscariot called Him Master, are you there today, and you say, Lord with hypocrisy, are you born again, are you transformed, are you changed? Are your sins forgiven? Are you a new creature in Christ? And do you have the love of God that you will not sell the Lord? Do you have the love of Christ that you will not sell the cross, the Calvary, the sacrifice at any price, and you will not deny the Lord. And with that warning, you would have thought that Judas Iscariot will just remove his hand from betraying, and after all the warning, he betrayed JESUS, and he had regret, he had remorse for what he hath done, but that is not repentance, he regretted and remorsed in himself for what he hath done, and he had sorrow for what he hath done, when he saw the consequences.
Why are you running after the money you will not spend? Why are you running after the things you will not use? And why are you running after the things that will not profit you? We can see that, after he collected money from the Pharisees to betray Christ, he eventually killed himself, he couldn't spend the money, and Jesus Christ said, it would have been better if he were not Born. He took his life, he committed suicide, and so you understand that, Holy Ghost spake concerning Judas Iscariot, scriptures spake concerning him, and the Lord Jesus Christ spake concerning him, if somebody is going to escape the Judgment of God on the final day, what the Holy Ghost has said, he must be mindful of that.
II. The willfulness of the betrayer. Mark 14:10-11; Matthew 26:14-16; Luke 22:3-6; Hebrews 10:26-31. That's the willinfulness of the backslider, that's the willingfulness of the apostate and the willingfulness of hypocrite. He was warned, and even after the warning, he was willful, he was determined to betray Christ. There are some people that doesn't care about hell fire, they commit sins willfully, they are willful in their sinning. After Judas Iscariot was warned, he was a willful sinner, he was a willful backslider, he was a willful apostate, he was a willful betrayer because Satan entered into him, that is why he could have that boldness to betray Christ, Satan will not enter into you, Satan will not possess you, and Satan will not control you, and Satan will not hide you like a captive and use you like an instrument that will destroy what the Lord Himself has raised up IN Jesus Name, Amen. Judas Iscariot promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude. He feared the multitude more than he feared God, and more than he feared Christ, and he protected himself from the multitude, rather than thinking about who Christ is, not only Judas Iscariot that betrayed JESUS, people who backslide after professing to be saved, after knowing Jesus, after Salvation, after hearing all the warning, after reading all the scripturess, after hearing everything, they slide back. After hearing everything we read about in Mark chapter 13, that talks about the rapture, that talks about the time of the great tribulation, that talks about the coming of Christ, and about what the Antichrist will do, after hearing and learning all that, if we sin willfully like Judas Iscariot, if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, the betrayer is now an adversary, the backslider is now an adversary, the prodigal has now become an adversary, the apostate who lives the way of righteousness and stop willfully and goes in the way of sin, has now become an adversary and the judgement of God, and the fiery indignation will devoured the adversary, people who willingful sin backslide, they don't care about the consequences of their sins, they trampled on the Lamb, it's an eternally hurtful things, dangerous thing to fall into the hand of the living God.
III. The woe for the betrayer. Mark 14:21; Luke 22:20-21; Jude 1:11-13; Matthew 23:27-29,33; Revelation 14:10.
What happenes will not go beyond what has been written of Him, the people who are sinners, and the persecutors of the believers should understand that, and the people that will fully go on wanting to oppress the people of God, they should understand they cannot go beyond what has been written and whatever has not been written of Him will not be done. Whatever God has not purposed, whatever God has not determined will not happen to Christ, the Apostles, the Believers and everyone of us, whatever happen, that is what God has determined, your life is not in the hand of Satan, and your destiny is not in the hand of Judas Iscariot, and is not in the hand of the betrayer, only what God allows will happen, He says it over and over, woe unto them that sin willfully, Judas Iscariot came in among twelve disciples, and Jesus was there, and they were holding the feast of the passover, Judas Iscariot was there, he was a spot and blemish in the Passover, he had no fear, he had no apprehension, even though he knew that Jesus have the word of knowledge and Jesus could single him out and when JESUS said someone will betray Him, he was there with sinful boldness, he was there with satanic boldness, and the rest disciples didn't knew he was different because outwardly he was like unto whited sepulchres, there are people like Judas Iscariot, they are serpents in the midst of people, and people will not know until they bite them. And Jesus said, woe unto them, woe means, eternal judgement, and eternal punishment, and it also means in the fiery indignation of God.
Today, we have learnt about the word of God on the preparation for the last supper, we have seen how that woman came and poured a costly ointment upon the head of Jesus Christ.
What does the Story of a woman that poured costly ointment on the head of Jesus Christ teaches us?
I. It teaches us to bring everything you have to the Lord.
II. It teaches us to bring who you are to God e.g. your talent, your skill, your ability, your knowledge and everything you can do, bring them and pour them on the head of Jesus.
III. It teaches us to bring the best you have in life, bring them and pour them upon the Lord and serve God without reservation, others may complain, don't mind them, just continue and it will be a record for you in the book of life in heaven.
