TOPIC: SIMON: A DISCIPLE OF JESUS
TEXT: MARK 3:13-19
Key Verse: "And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite" (Mark 3:18).
Some disciples of Jesus have similar names or surnames. However, one thing distinguishes one from the other.
This Simon in our text is referred to as Simon the Zealote or Simon the Canaanite. He was different from Simon Peter. His name (Zelotes) suggests that he might have belonged to a group of people who were known for religious zeal.
Simon was one of those who received the power of the Holy Ghost at the Upper Room. He served Christ faithfully with the other apostles. Though little is known about him, he served God with his whole time and life.Whatever your hands find to do in the kingdom, do it well. Do not seek personal recognition - God knows you and will reward you in due time. Stand at your duty post and work for God.
Prayer: O Lord, help me to shine the Light of Christ in my little corner.
