GOD FULFILS HIS PROMISES

TEXT: EXODUS 6:1-13

KEY VERSE: "Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments" (EXODUS 6:6).

Often times, our predicaments seem insurmountable. With every passing day, the suffering becomes difficult to bear. We might even get to the point when we begin to assume that the Lord has forgotten us; that we are alone, desolate and inconsolable. But God will never forget to overlook the challenges of His children.

Moses and Aaron had gone to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, with the message from God to free the Israelites from bondage. Instead of heeding their demand, he ordered the doubling of their hard labour. Moses was discouraged, but God was only just beginning the process by which He would deliver the Israelites. He reassured Moses of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and introduced Himself by the new name of Jehovah. He informed him that He was concerned with the plight of the Israelites, and said He would bring them out of slavery in Egypt as He had promised.

When Moses spoke to the Israelites, they refused to listen to him because of their "anguish of spirit, and... cruel bondage". Moses too was reluctant to go back to Pharaoh with God's message. But God insisted that he should return to the Israelites and Pharaoh with His message of freedom.

Irrespective of the severity of your condition, God is aware of it. It may appear as if the forces against you are too powerful to dislodge or your condition seems too hopeless. Yet God will not leave or forsake His children. He remembers His covenant with them. And just when they think all hope is lost, He arrives in His mighty power to roll away all their problems.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Cheer up, God will not leave or forsake you.

THE DESTINY OF DECEIVERS

TEXT: PSALM 101:1-8

MEMORY VERSE: "He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight" (PSALM 101:7).

The danger of being associates of deceivers is that deceivers do not bear the consequences of their deeds alone; the deceived share in their pains and judgments. Such was the case of the Israelites when they fell for Absalom's deception.

Our text clearly states God's displeasure against deceivers. The implication of their actions, among others, is expulsion from God's presence and care. Many youths are being deceived by false prophets and teachers who teach false doctrine of eternal security without holiness. Such deceivers can draw much crowd to themselves, yet they are abominable before God.

Christian youths should increase their voices of holiness through their impeccable lives. An American poet, Criss Jami, admonishes that, "One who speaks a mere portion of truth to deceive is a craftsman of destruction."

Therefore, you should avoid being deceived because that will damn your soul. You must also withdraw your allegiance and support of any kind from preachers of errors who are in our schools and neighbourhood to deceive people. Come out of deceit today.

QUOTE: The deceived share in their pains.

CHALLENGE: Stay away from deceivers.

PRAYER: Lord, give me the courage to stand for the truth.

WHY PUNISH THE RIGHTEOUS?

BIBLE TEXT: EZEKIEL 21:3-5

KEY VERSE: "And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of his sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked" (EZEKIEL 21:8).

Benny is a friend of Jesus. His father testified that whenever he wants to know the truth about a matter among his children, he would always ask Benny. Due to his godly behaviour in his school, the principal calls him 'pastor.' One afternoon there was an emergency meeting for all teachers. Benny's teacher had to join others in the meeting. The teacher returned to find the class very rowdy and asked for the names of those who disturbed the class in his absence. Benny, who was sitting quietly by the corner of the class, neither rebuked his classmates nor told the teacher those who were making a noise. The teacher had to severely punish  everyone including Benny.

When you as a friend of Jesus, out of fear do not correct sinful children and preach the love of Jesus to save them from sins, like Benny and the children of Israel, when trouble and the punishment of God comes, you will share in it. Remember, you save yourself from pain when you show sinners the way of salvation.

PRAYER: Lord, please give me the boldness to speak against sin and preach the love of Jesus to sinners.
