FRIDAY JANUARY 14, 2022

TOPIC: DO NOT QUIT!

TEXT: EXODUS 5:15-23

KEY VERSE: "And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?" (EXODUS 5:22).

In Napoleon Hill's classic, Think and Grow Rich, a man called R. U. Darby was caught in a gold rush. After discovering a field with the prospects of gold, he put some money together from friends and relatives to purchase the equipment to dig. But after many days of labour and finding nothing, they decided to quit. They sold the equipment to a junk man for a few hundred dollars and went back home. The junk man called in a mining engineer who examined the field and concluded that gold was available just three feet from where the Darbys had stopped. The junk man took millions of dollars from the ore of the mine because he knew enough to seek expert advice before giving up.

Moses and the people of Israel almost lost faith in God's plan to liberate them from Egypt's bondage. A series of back-to-back misfortunes resulted in their being discouraged.

Like srael and Moses, some could be wondering right now if they are still in God's will due to their present situation. They ask, 'Can we be in the will of God and be experiencing setbacks?' Some people have left their spouses and family, changed churches or abandoned their God-ordained profession because of temporal adversities.

We sometimes encounter challenges, discouraging circumstances and even failure on our way to success. The devil fights against God's will, forcing many to quit just when victory is near. We must trust God more when things are not working well because He is too faithful to disappoint us.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Those who quit do not win.

CHRIST'S COMPENSATION

TEXT: MARK 10:27-31

MEMORY VERSE: "But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life" (MARK 10:30).

Many youths today are largely aloof of Christ's call to service in His kingdom. Like Peter, they want to know their immediate benefits and gratifications, and as such, fail to know that God does not call anyone to serve Him in vain. He has adequate compensation plans for all who answer the call to salvation and service. Christ's compensation plan is greatly sufficient for this life and in eternity. He owes no man! He pays those who labour for Him in evangelizing the world and leading souls to the kingdom of God.

As you decide to seek the Lord today and for the rest of your life, you will soon discover He is the rewarder of them who diligently seek Him. Therefore, commit your time, talents, skills and treasure to a life-long service to God and humanity. There is no sacrifice too much to make for Christ and His kingdom.

Remember the Lord in your youth and be fervent for Him. From now on, ensure you are born again and become a worker for God in the school fellowship thereafter.

QUOTE: Be fervent for Him.

CHALLENGE: Following Christ is gain.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, help me to serve You with all I have.

PREPARE FOR GOOD WORKS

TEXT: 2 TIMOTHY 3:14-17

Key Verse: "That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works" (2 TIMOTHY 3:17).

Adequate preparation for an important task brings success. David did not just emerge to conquer Goliath, he had been preparing for a long time as a shepherd watching over his father's flock. As a child, Joseph stated dreaming and getting to know the significance of his dreams. Therefore, he was better prepared to interpret the dreams of others which led to the actualization of his own dreams. Eventually, he got to the throne through this gift.

Timothy in our text was also adequately prepared before becoming a pastor. God gave him a godly mother and grandmother. Eunice and Lois respectively, who taught him the way of God early in life. Paul the Apostle, his father in the Lord, built upon this foundation and no wonder Timothy became a well-tested, trusted and faithful servant of God. Every opportunity you have to be trained, schooled and skilled in any area of life must not be overlooked. Take full advantage of them so you can be properly prepared tor a good and successful life as you grow up.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, strengthen me and make me ready for every good work.
