DAILY MANNA

WEDNESDAY JANUARY 05, 2022

TOPIC: WHAT IS MISSING?

TEXT: PSALM 15:1-5

KEY VERSE: "LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?" (PSALM 15:1).

In William Shakespeare's King Henry IV, a king walking about the palace wonders why he is denied sleep when his lowly placed subjects are enjoying deep repose. As he paces the royal grounds observing the less materially endowed slumbering "in smoky cribs... in loathsome beds", he lashes at the gods for bypassing him with all his greatness to give sweet sleep to the "vile" of his kingdom. With all his splendour, the king still lacked what riches could not procure.

Similarly, David, the great king of Israel, also discovered that despite all he had in royal grandeur, none could give him access to the greatest aspiration of man - eternal stay with God in heaven. He posed fundamental questions like the king in Shakespeare's play. Why would a king, having all that riches could procure, not gain automatic entry to the presence of the Almighty?

The holy God would only welcome he "that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, [who] speaketh the truth in his heart". Such person "doeth (not) evil to his neighbour... sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not... putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent".

We must not be deceived by the short-lived pageantry of prosperity, which does not possess the power to take us into the unspeakable joy of heaven. Man, on his own, cannot provide these missing virtues. He must source the power to get them from outside him and his resources. Only in Jesus, the Son of God, can we obtain the grace and power to meet the requirement. He is wise who penitently comes to Christ to fit him for eternal life.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Nobody gets to heaven by accident or with earthly qualification.

ALL SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS

TEXT: EPHESIANS 1:1-14

MEMORY VERSE: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ" (EPHESIANS 1:3).

Paul the Apostle, in approximately A.D. 60, from Rome (as a prisoner for Christ), wrote to the Church at Ephesus to strengthen and encourage them about their identity and unity in Christ. He taught them about the availability of the inexhaustible blessings that had been purchased for them freely, by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary. These blessings include their peace from God, redemption through His blood, adoption as children, and sanctification in Christ.

However, this letter was not just to the Church at Ephesus alone, but also to all faithful believers in Christ today who have been chosen by Him, so that He might provide us with all the resources for all our endeavors according to the riches of His grace.

Why are Christian youths still living without the evidence of God's riches in spite of His obvious magnanimity and benefits through Christ? It is the responsibility of all Christian youths to tap from Christ's overflowing wealth through the prayer of faith. However, you must be born again to be able to receive and enjoy all the blessings.

QUOTE: These blessings include peace from God.

CHALLENGE: Have faith in Christ.

PRAYER: O God, help me to enjoy the blessings provided for me on the cross.
